About the Author
Jane Kucera is a chemical engineer with 25 years' experience in the area of membrane technology. Jane began her work with membranes in the Seawater Laboratory at UCLA where she received her Master of Chemical Engineering degree in 1984. She worked for 7 years with Bend Research, where she worked on water re-use systems for the International Space Station.? Ms. Kucera's subsequent career path is a "who's who" of the world's most respected companies working in water treatment, including GE and Siemens. She joined the Nalco Company in 2003, where she is a senior engineer with a variety of responsibilities. She has approximately 40 publications to her credit, including journal articles, presentations, and book chapters.

This review relates to kindle edition of the book.Before I decided to purchase this book I had been well familiar with Reverse Osmosis and pretreatment technologies, or so I thought. To my surprise it turned out I was familiar with just the tip of the iceberg.I have been operating a whole house RO unit with 3,000gpd capacity.But recently our team just invested into a bottling plant that had 13,000 GPH Reverse Osmosis unit. Since I was sure they were doing many things wrong (the membranes kept fouling every 6 months with the inflow of just 580 TDS) to backup my points I purchased this book and I am glad I did.The author is more than qualified to write on the subject. I also liked how she cuts to the chase on subjects without undue prelude.My rating of three stars does not represent the subject matter of the book but the overall quality of the Book which is not limited to its subject matter.The book has so many spelling errors and too many grammatical mistakes that it keeps distracting me!!! To have an idea there is spelling and/or grammatical mistake on almost every page! Although most spelling mistakes could not have been caught by spellcheckers but required proofreading, there were mistakes that could have been caught by spellcheckers too. And almost all grammatical mistakes could've been caught by Word's grammar checker!!! C'mon, really!! For a book, especially for the one about cutting edge technology being written in this awesome 21st century where Microsoft Word exists with its great features is not acceptable. But for the book that is sold for $180 this is absolutely not acceptible and downright cruel!!! If the book cost $17.95 at most it could've gotten 4 stars.Shame!

Following the reviews, I thought this was a new approach into the reverse osmosis as also the subtitles let understand. As I was reading this book, it seems to be disappointed by the fact of a collection of earlier studies and processes of the RO process. What I expected about the design studies as well as applications was not found, only a general overview of existing stuff. Honestly, this book in not worth the money I paid for it.
Authour is personally known to writer and as expected, book was well written and useful to writer. Hope to get her next book.
Great book and resource when working with RO's, I have worked with Jane and she knows her stuff
Well written book with great photos and details that walk the reader through the evolution of membrane technology. Really enjoyed all the chapters, especially Chapter 17 (FAQs). As I have read other technical books in my career, this one truly gave a good consice feel of all subject matter (system design, computer modeling, materials of construction, impacts of various water quality and affect on membrane performance). Great reference overall!
I appropriated this book from work, I am a water treatment operator, at my plant we run 9 RO units, this book has a ton of great info in it, great referance for any operator (more info you will ever need to know)
This book is outstanding for people that have chemical engineering or scientific background and are interested in learning about this topic. It is written in a straightfoward language easy to read through. Just perfect! buy it you will not regret it.
